|
|
The Programme is specially arranged by CUZ for International Exchange Students to learn Chinese as a second foreign language. Designed as a short-term, intensive, practical and accelerated course, the entire programme focuses on the teaching of most-frequently used and urgently-needed parts of the language to meet the actual needs of students in Chinese speaking situations wherever they are.
|
Who is this Programme for?
This Programme is for the non-Chinese speaking undergraduate students who will come to CUZ as exchange students in the learning of the Chinese language at an elementary level.
The learner at this level (including total beginner) has not mastered the pronunciation skills of Chinese Putonghua or is unable to use Hanyu Pinyin as a reading tool; and he/she has not learned or grasped the basic structure of Chinese grammar; their vocabulary for recognition is between 0 and 2000 Chinese characters and vocabulary for production between 0 and 2000 Chinese characters; and their skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are poor or unevenly developed.
Duration
The Programme runs for 8 weeks (280 class hours), divided into two 4-week terms (80 class hours).
Teaching objectives
General objectives: through this short and intensive Programme, students are expected to complete a certain amount of tasks to communicate in Chinese, acquire relevant language elements, speech skills and Chinese culture-related knowledge, and improve their Chinese communication skills on the base of their existing Chinese level.
Specific aims: students will complete their study of communicative skills in Chinese required for the elementary level of the Programme, and will be able to use Chinese to carry out not only basic communicative activities in daily life and study situations, but simple social communicative activities as well.
The teaching content and requirements
1 The item “communicative tasks” is the main content to learn;
2 In this teaching pattern, although “communicative tasks” cover a wide range of items in vocabulary and grammar, not much actually is required to master at this level, so vocabulary and grammar are only secondary to the main tasks; approximate vocabulary of 1000 words is required, 80% language points in grammar to master are expected;
3 Non-beginner students need to be evaluated with language level and ability tests for course placements.
