African Film and Media Delegation Visits Our University

Recently, an African Film and Media Delegation composed of experts from more than ten universities and news organizations—including the University of the Western Cape (South Africa), the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique), and the University of Yaoundé II (Cameroon)—visited our university. CUZ Vice President Yao Zheng met with the delegation, joined by leaders from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the School of Television and Audio-Visual Arts (School of Documentary).

Vice President Yao extended a warm welcome to the guests. He provided a detailed introduction to the university’s academic strengths, talent development initiatives, and international collaboration efforts, and highlighted recent achievements in cooperation with African partner institutions. He noted that our university places great importance on China–Africa strategic cooperation, welcomes more African students and scholars to study and exchange here, and looks forward to working with African partners to deepen collaboration in audiovisual arts, share resources, and jointly build a platform for China–Africa film education and cultural exchange.

Members of the delegation highly praised the university’s advanced teaching philosophy and modern facilities in film and television education. They commented that the university’s innovative practices and mature experience provide valuable insights for the development of film and media education in Africa. The representatives expressed their willingness to take this visit as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, audiovisual education, and other areas, further promoting China–Africa cultural dialogue and mutual learning.

Professor Ding Lili from the School of Television and Audio-Visual Arts (School of Documentary) delivered a special lecture titled “The Development of China’s TV Drama Industry.” She provided an in-depth overview of the history of China’s film and television sector, the four stages of Chinese TV drama development, and the current status of international exchange. Her clear and engaging presentation resonated strongly with the delegation.

During the visit, the group toured the China Research Center for Radio and Television Arts, the National Television Editing and Directing Laboratory, the 4K E-sports Integrated Laboratory, the Future Imaging and Social Application Laboratory, and the School of Television and Audio-Visual Arts (School of Documentary).At the China Research Center for Radio and Television Arts, the delegation learned about the history of China’s broadcasting and television arts and the achievements in digitizing precious audiovisual archives. At the National Television Editing and Directing Laboratory, they observed advanced TV production technologies and the university’s practical training system. In the 4K E-sports Integrated Laboratory, they were introduced to ultra-high-definition e-sports broadcasting technologies and virtual production workflows. In the Future Imaging and Social Application Laboratory, they experienced large-scale interactive VR projects that showcased innovative ways to present Chinese traditional culture and modern social development.

This visit not only demonstrated the university’s comprehensive strengths in film and television education and technological innovation but also built an important platform for exchange and cooperation with African universities and institutions. Moving forward, the university will continue to enhance collaboration with African partners in talent cultivation, content co-creation, and technological innovation, contributing “CUZ strength” to China–Africa cooperation in film and media.
