Recently, CUZ outstanding alumna Wang Fang received the “Special Contribution Award” issued by the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania and delivered a speech at the award ceremony. In her remarks, she noted that she often shares with her students her experiences and impressions of studying at the Communication University of Zhejiang. As a Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute, she is committed to continuing her efforts to teach the Chinese language, promote Chinese culture, broaden her students’ understanding of the world, and create more opportunities for them.

Wang Fang graduated in 2020 from the School of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts program of the Communication University of Zhejiang. She is from Zanzibar, Tanzania. During her studies, she served as class monitor, worked diligently, and made remarkable progress in both her Chinese proficiency and professional broadcasting skills, achieving excellent results in various competitions.

Reflecting on her greatest achievements during her studies in China, she said:
“My Chinese improved significantly—I can now communicate fluently in Chinese. I also learned video editing, filming, high-tech lifestyle skills, and the professional abilities required of hosts and journalists.”

When recalling her most unforgettable memory at the university, she said:
“When I was hospitalized, the university paid all my medical and surgical expenses, and the teachers treated me as if I were their own daughter.”

After completing her bachelor's degree, Wang Fang received a Confucius Institute Scholarship and pursued a master's degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at Harbin Normal University.

Wang Fang is now a Chinese language teacher at the National College of Tourism at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. She is responsible for elective courses such as HSK instruction and academic guidance. Many of her students have applied for scholarships to study in China, while others have secured desirable jobs thanks to their Chinese language skills.

In recent years, with the growing presence of Chinese enterprises and businesspeople in Tanzania, the demand for Chinese-speaking talent has increased significantly. As a result, graduates trained by the Confucius Institute are in short supply, and Wang Fang’s work is helping to fill this important gap.
