Date:Fri, Nov 7 2025 09:26

On November 1, CUZ Vice President Yao Zheng met with Zhang Qin, a Chinese writer from Spain who came to attend the 2025 International Academic Symposium on Chinese Microfiction and the First “Huayan Cup” Microfiction Excellence Awards.

Yao Zheng first extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Ms. Zhang Qin for traveling from afar to participate in the event hosted by the university. He briefly introduced the university’s recent development, particularly the achievements in international cooperation, promoting dialogue among global civilizations, and building transnational communication bridges for Chinese communities worldwide.
Yao Zheng emphasized that Chinese-language literature serves as a spiritual bond connecting Chinese people around the world, helping to spread fine traditional Chinese culture and enhance cultural confidence. The university will continue to strengthen cooperation with the global Chinese literary community, jointly exploring new paradigms for Chinese-language literary creation, research, and dissemination. He expressed hope that Ms. Zhang Qin will help build more bridges between our university and the global Chinese literary world.

Ms. Zhang Qin congratulated the university on the successful hosting of the “2025 International Academic Symposium on Chinese Microfiction and the First ‘Huayan Cup’ Microfiction Excellence Awards.”
She said that, following the “worldwide momentum of Chinese-language literature,” she was once again delighted to return to Hangzhou—a land full of vitality and spiritual charm—and expressed gratitude to Professor Wan Yinghua and Dean Zhu Wenbin for their invitation.

On the eve of the first “Huayan Cup” Microfiction Excellence Awards, upon learning that Communication University of Zhejiang had established the Huace School of Film and had achieved outstanding results in film and television disciplines, she developed the idea of leaving the valuable cinematic artistic legacy of her late husband Miguel Zhang (Zhang Baoqing) to CUZ, to be preserved in her homeland.
She noted that this had been her husband’s wish in the 13 years since his passing: for the humanistic and artistic resources that drifted overseas to return home, allowing younger generations to better understand world cinema and fostering cultural exchange between China and the West through a Chinese context. She especially hoped that the unique artistic legacy left by the internationally renowned filmmaker Miguel Zhang could generate tangible value through preservation at CUZ.

Ms. Wan Yinghua, Vice President of the U.S. Chapter of the World Chinese Microfiction Research Association, accompanied the meeting. Representatives from the Graduate School, the Office of Humanities, Social Sciences and Creative Arts, the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs), the School of Literature, and the Huace School of Film also attended.

Zhang Qin, originally from Kaifeng, Henan Province, was born in Sichuan. She is a member of the Spanish Writers and Artists Association, a lifelong member of both the Overseas Chinese Women Writers Association and the World Congress of Poets.
She founded the Spanish Chinese Writers Association and the Iberian Poetry Society of Spain.

Her representative works include Dreams of the Mediterranean, Exotic Dreams, The Prose Collection of Qin Xin, Pastoral Songs (Chinese–Spanish bilingual edition), Cold Rain Knocking on the Window, Heavenly Rhythms, and the documentary Poetic Memories of Miguel Zhang. Poetic Memories of Miguel Zhang won the Vancouver World Chinese Film & Television Memorial Award, the New Star Award of the First International Chinese Original IP Film Festival, and in 2024 earned the honorary title of “International Chinese Laureate Poet.”
