Manchester Metropolitan University Professor Joe Duffy Visits Communication University of Zhejiang

Recently, Professor Joe Duffy, International Lead of the School of Digital Arts (SODA) at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, visited the Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ) for academic exchange. Professor Duffy held discussion sessions with representatives from CUZ’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation,School of Design Arts, and School of Animation and Digital Arts, engaging in in-depth dialogue on potential collaboration in the field of art and design.

Professor Kang Xiuji, Dean of the School of Design Arts, extended a warm welcome to Professor Duffy. Vice Dean Gao Muxing provided a detailed overview of CUZ’s disciplinary development, programme structure, recent teaching achievements, and distinctive international education practices—highlighting existing collaborations with renowned universities worldwide and CUZ’s broad platforms for international student exchange.

Professor Duffy introduced the curriculum structure, academic strengths, and global engagement strategy of SODA at Manchester Metropolitan University, and explored opportunities for cooperation in talent development and research.

Both sides expressed strong expectations for future collaboration, agreeing to explore partnerships in student exchange, joint training programmes, academic workshops, and research interaction, with the shared goal of building more platforms for faculty–student exchange between the two institutions.

Following the meeting, Professor Duffy delivered a special lecture titled “Creative Storytelling”, focusing on idea generation, observational skills, and narrative construction in photography. The lecture drew strong interest from students and faculty across the School of Design Art, Huace School of Film, and the School of Animation and Digital Arts, offering valuable insights into storytelling within visual arts.

Professor Duffy also visited CUZ’s 4K eSports Studio, University History Museum, and facilities of the School of Animation and Digital Arts, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the university's teaching environment and technological resources.

Professor Joe Duffy’s visit not only brought cutting-edge perspectives in art and design education, but also strengthened the bridge for future China–UK collaboration in creative arts. Looking ahead, the School of Design & Art will continue expanding its global partnerships, advancing internationalisation, and nurturing design talents with creativity, innovation, and global competitiveness.
