On October 20, Professor Mark McMahon, Dean of International Strategy at the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia, led a delegation to visit Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ). Vice President Yao Zheng met with the guests, accompanied by officials from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation Division and the School of Media Engineering.

Vice President Yao Zheng extended a warm welcome to Professor McMahon and his delegation. He introduced CUZ’s distinctive academic strengths, teaching features, and achievements in international development. He emphasized that CUZ has always upheld an open and inclusive educational philosophy and places great importance on cooperation with world-class universities. As one of Australia’s most innovative and dynamic institutions, Edith Cowan University boasts a strong academic atmosphere and vibrant artistic environment. Yao expressed his hope that this visit would mark a new beginning for both universities to enhance cross-cultural communication and international media talent cultivation.

Professor Mark McMahon expressed sincere gratitude for CUZ’s warm reception. He introduced ECU’s academic background and extensive experience in international collaboration, noting that the university looks forward to deepening cooperation with CUZ. He highlighted the importance of integrating Eastern and Western perspectives on media education, and envisioned that through joint efforts, the two universities could explore innovative models for future-oriented media education, achieve mutual complementarity, and promote high-quality development in media studies and practice.

During the visit, Professor McMahon delivered a special lecture titled “AI in Creativity: Exploring the Intersection of Technology and Human Ingenuity.” Drawing from his research, he shared unique insights into the frontiers of artificial intelligence and offered practical suggestions on how AI can be harnessed to address human challenges. He also explored in depth how AI can be integrated into higher education, sparking strong engagement among CUZ students. Many attendees commented that the lecture broadened their understanding of AI and inspired their confidence in the future development of intelligent technologies.

The delegation also visited CUZ’s 4K E-sports Integrated Laboratory and Intelligent Media Engineering Centre, where they experienced the university’s XR virtual production and AIGC image-generation technologies. Professor McMahon highly praised CUZ’s innovative achievements in the field of intelligent media and expressed enthusiasm for future cooperation.
