On September 17, a delegation led by Professor Logan Bannister, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, visited Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ). CUZ President Wei Lu and Vice-President Yao Zheng warmly welcomed the guests. Representatives from the International Exchange and Cooperation Division, the School of International Culture Communication, and the School of Media Engineering also joined the discussions.

Strengthening Partnerships
President Wei extended his warm welcome to Deputy Vice-Chancellor Bannister and her delegation, introducing CUZ’s distinctive strengths, disciplinary advantages, and international development strategy. Recalling his meeting with VUW’s Vice-Chancellor Nic Smith in Beijing earlier this year, he expressed hopes that Logan Bannister’s visit would serve as an opportunity to deepen and implement existing cooperation. He highlighted areas such as joint educational programmes, talent cultivation, academic research, and student and faculty exchanges as priorities for the two institutions.

Vice-President Yao held detailed talks with the delegation, focusing on potential collaboration. Discussions covered establishing a joint educational institute, developing postgraduate joint training programmes, aligning curricula, and expanding faculty and student exchanges. Both sides reached several agreements, laying a solid foundation for substantive future projects.

Acknowledging Achievements
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Logan Bannister expressed gratitude for CUZ’s warm reception and praised its achievements in media education and cultural communication. She introduced the history and strengths of Victoria University of Wellington, particularly its international collaboration expertise. Bannister also commended the success of existing partnerships and expressed her strong interest in further exploring joint programme models and creating new high-quality educational initiatives together.

Engaging with Students

During the visit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Bannister attended a lively meeting with students from the joint Communication programme at CUZ’s School of International Communication. She warmly shared insights into VUW’s academic environment, campus culture, and student life in New Zealand. She also responded to students’ questions about course learning, further study, and career development. Encouraging them to make full use of resources and opportunities offered by both universities, she inspired the students to broaden their horizons and become globally minded media professionals. The session was met with enthusiasm, with students commenting that the exchange gave them both a deeper understanding of VUW and renewed passion for their academic goals.

Before the meetings, the delegation toured CUZ’s 4K E-sports Integrated Laboratory and University History Museum, gaining a deeper understanding of the university’s technological innovation and rich cultural heritage.
