On 28 May, Professor Allan Walker, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford (UK), led a delegation to visit the Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ). President Wei Lu warmly received the delegation, and the two sides held in-depth discussions on advancing Sino-foreign cooperative education initiatives and promoting academic exchanges between faculty and students. Representatives from CUZ’s Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) and the School of Television and Audio-Visual Arts (School of Documentary) were also present at the meeting.

President Wei Lu welcomed Professor Walker and his delegation, expressing appreciation for the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions in recent years. He emphasised that CUZ places great value on its partnership with the University of Salford and regards the proposed joint educational programme as a key component of both universities’ internationalisation strategies. Leveraging the complementary strengths of each institution, the collaboration aims to cultivate high-quality talent with a global perspective and contribute positively to China-UK educational cooperation.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Allan Walker commended CUZ for its academic strength and strategic vision. He noted that the University of Salford, with its rich teaching experience and industry ties—particularly in media-related disciplines—is well-positioned to support the development of a high-calibre joint education programme. He expressed his hope that the two universities will work together to create an internationalised and academically rigorous platform for students.

During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on the academic structure, curriculum design, teaching resources, and enrolment plans for the cooperative education programme. A preliminary framework was agreed upon, and it was decided that a joint working group would be established to accelerate the finalisation of the agreement, secure official approval, and begin preparations for student recruitment.

As part of the visit, Professor Walker and his delegation toured CUZ’s Virtual Imaging and Intelligent Production Laboratory and engaged in dialogue with project leaders and faculty representatives. These discussions further explored practical approaches to curriculum alignment and the sharing of educational resources.

The University of Salford, founded in 1896 as the Royal Technical Institute and granted university status by Royal Charter in 1967, is a comprehensive public university in the United Kingdom. It is especially renowned for its excellence in media arts, business, science, and computing. With one of the UK’s top ten rankings in teaching quality and 83% of its research recognised at an international level, the university is known for its innovative “sandwich” degree structure, which integrates academic study with internships and industry experience, offering students strong career readiness.

This visit marks a significant step towards deeper cooperation between CUZ and the University of Salford and paves the way for an exciting new chapter in transnational education.
