The China Scholarship Council (CSC) has recently announced the list of projects funded under the 2025 “Support Program for National and Regional Research Talents (Project-based).” The application submitted by the Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ) for the “CUZ–Victoria University of Wellington Intercultural Communication Research Visiting Scholar Program” has been successfully approved. This marks the second time CUZ has received funding under this prestigious program, following the approval of the “Visiting Scholar Program at the Centre for British Studies, University of Cambridge” in 2022. This recognition signifies CUZ’s continuous progress in the fields of national and regional studies, as well as in the development of internationally oriented research talent.

The CUZ–VUW Intercultural Communication Research Visiting Scholar Program is a collaborative initiative between CUZ and Victoria University of Wellington (VUW)—one of New Zealand’s leading research institutions, internationally recognized for its excellence in media and communication studies. The program is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of intercultural communication scholars who possess a global vision, a solid understanding of international norms, and the capability to actively engage in international affairs and global competition.

CUZ and VUW have maintained a long-standing and productive partnership, achieving notable outcomes in joint research initiatives and academic exchanges of faculty and students. The successful approval of this program will further deepen bilateral cooperation, enhance the development of CUZ’s intercultural communication discipline, and contribute to the university’s mission of nurturing globally competitive talents.

The “Support Program for National and Regional Research Talents” is a key initiative launched by the CSC to align with national strategic priorities. It aims to strengthen talent cultivation in the field of country and regional studies, while supporting the establishment of high-level research centers in Chinese universities. The program encourages collaboration between Chinese institutions and leading universities or research bodies abroad to facilitate academic exchange and the development of specialized talent.

CUZ has consistently prioritized national and regional studies and the cultivation of internationalized professionals. In recent years, the university has continuously increased investment in these areas, broadened international cooperation channels, and achieved significant results. The renewed approval of this program reflects national recognition of CUZ’s efforts and will provide further momentum toward its goal of building a first-class, globally recognized, high-level media university in China.

Looking forward, CUZ will continue to uphold the principles of openness and internationalization, deepen global academic cooperation, and further improve the quality of its country and regional studies and international talent training. The university remains committed to serving national strategic needs and contributing to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
