Recently, international students from the Communication University of Zhejiang have taken part in a series of cultural exchange activities both on and off campus. Through diverse forms such as singing and dancing, traditional cultural displays, and poetry recitations, they brought the vibrant spirit of youth from across the globe to the stage. Engaging in cross-campus interactions, they vividly demonstrated the charm of cultural integration, using passion and creativity to build bridges for intercultural communication.

On December 9, the university’s Youth Music Gala opened at the Tongxiang Wuzhen campus. A 20-member international student singing and dance group performed “Shining.” With fresh costumes, synchronized choreography, and powerful vocals, they energized the entire venue. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds performed side by side, blending multicultural flair with youthful vitality, and expressing their love for campus life as well as their enthusiasm for cultural exchange.

On December 11, international students were invited to participate in the International Cultural Festival at Hangzhou Dianzi University, where they became one of the highlights of the event. During the evening gala, nine students from Malaysia, Mozambique, and Russia presented a poetry recitation titled “Reading China.” Voices from different nations intertwined, taking the audience from the grandeur of the Great Wall to the elegance of Jiangnan, conveying a sincere appreciation and understanding of Chinese culture and adding a rich humanistic touch to the event.

In addition, the henna art booth set up by international students proved especially popular. While creating intricate designs, they introduced the origins and cultural meanings of henna art to visitors. Through this interactive experience, unfamiliar faces connected over hand-drawn patterns, making cross-campus exchange both warm and tangible.

On December 29, at the invitation of the China Academy of Art, a team of international students from the university brought a carefully choreographed performance to a New Year’s celebration event. Their reimagined version of “Shining” incorporated the unique artistic atmosphere of the academy. Seamless choreography and energetic stage presence blended perfectly with the festive New Year ambiance, earning enthusiastic applause. After the performance, students from both institutions engaged in in-depth discussions on art and culture, fostering closer connections through the exchange of ideas and making the cross-campus gathering rich in cultural warmth.

Participants in the singing and dance activities expressed that every stage experience was a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange. SEAW ZHUO XUIN (Qiu Zhuoxuan), a Malaysian student majoring in Animation (Comics and Illustration) from the Class of 2025, shared that through her henna art demonstrations and creations, more people came to appreciate this distinctive folk art, while also deepening her own passion for exploring diverse cultures.

CHIN YEE XUAN (Chen Yuxuan), a Malaysian student from the Class of 2024 majoring in Bilingual Broadcasting, reflected that through the recitation of “Reading China,” he gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture and hopes to use language as a medium to build bridges between different cultures in the future.

The Communication University of Zhejiang has long upheld an open and inclusive educational philosophy, actively providing high-quality platforms for cross-campus exchange and international interaction. The university encourages students to step beyond campus boundaries, embrace diversity, and grow through dialogue and exchange.

Looking ahead, the university will continue to create more opportunities for cultural engagement, enabling its students to showcase their youthful vitality on broader stages, and allowing the flowers of intercultural friendship to flourish through ongoing interaction.
