The 14th International Conference on World Chinese-Language Media and Chinese Civilization was recently held at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
This year’s conference was themed “A Community with a Shared Future for Mankind in a Changing World: Pathways Toward Peace, Dialogue and Development.” Scholars, industry professionals, and media leaders from across Asia gathered to discuss the emerging landscape of Chinese-language media in the context of global transformations, as well as its vital role in advancing the development of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Jointly organized by the Chinese Journalism History Association, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Nanyang Technological University, the conference marks the 30th anniversary of the event since its inception in 1995.

CUZ President Wei Lu attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech of appreciation on behalf of the Chinese Journalism History Association to the three founders of the conference.

Wei highlighted that Mr. Fang Hanzhi, Mr. Wu Tingjun, and Mr. Guo Zhenyu—three esteemed pioneers in the field of journalism and communication—have profoundly shaped the discipline through their scholarship and pioneering spirit. He noted that their dedication to academic exchange between China and Singapore has built important bridges across regions and cultures, enabling Chinese civilization’s communication wisdom to gain broader expression on the international stage and providing lasting momentum for academic development and cultural transmission in the Chinese-speaking world.

During the conference, President Wei delivered a keynote report titled “Evaluating the Effectiveness of International Communication in the Intelligent Era.”

Building on a review of existing research, he proposed three innovative pathways for evaluating international communication effectiveness:

1.Constructing an evaluation framework integrating both official and non-official communication subjects;

2. Optimizing data structures by combining subjective and objective indicators;

3. Exploring a hybrid evaluation mechanism that integrates both static and dynamic responses.
