Themed as 'Together we defeat Covid-19', the provincial government of Zhejiang hosted a conference with African envoys in Hangzhou on September 14, 2020. 21 ambassadors (or chargé d'affaires) to China from 23 African countries, Zhejiang government officials, managers of Zhejiang-based enterprises involved in China-Africa cooperation, and administrators of some higher education institutions attended the conference.
Cooperation plans with Africa including public health and health industry, economy and trade, higher education, culture and tourism, were initiated at the conference. Zhu Congjiu, Deputy Governor of Zhejiang, welcomed the African diplomats' visit to the province. Zhu mentioned various exchange and cooperation programs and projects between Zhejiang and African countries in recent years and called for strengthening bilateral cooperation amid the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Yao Zheng, Vice President of CUZ, was invited to attend the conference and talked with the ambassadors of Tanzania, Zambia and other countries to China. CUZ has recently declared to be a member of the "Zhejiang-Africa Higher Education Partnership Program". The University has maintained close exchange visits and exchanges with African universities for a long time. Since 2010, the school leaders have visited universities and media institutions in South Africa, Cameroon, Tanzania and other African countries for exchange visits, training of international students, teacher exchange and teaching-scientific research cooperation. It is worth mentioning that the Broadcasting and Presenting Art (Bilingual Broadcasting) Major, one of the first batch of international major programs in Zhejiang Province, specially has enrolled 48 students on full-time education base in Tanzania for five years. This is the only international student project of bilingual broadcasting and presenting art in China to Africa at present. A series of international cultural exchange missions and activities with the theme of "spaceship project" are also being actively promoted.
